RE: Hard Deadlines for the smooth operations for DRF’s and Revalidations.
Dues and Remittance forms (DRF);
*September 1st through January 31st – Chapters collect dues from members, $12 for National, Department Dues Per Department SOP and submit total amount per member to the Department. Chapters without Riders Departments send $12 per member to the National Secretary. Chapters may charge whatever the Chapter membership decides for Chapter dues. This gives Chapter 1st Vices time to verify individual memberships with parent organizations (AMVETS, Sons of AMVETS and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary) prior to the end of February. National will start accepting DRF’s as soon as December 1st.
*March 1st – Chapters must remit Dues and Remittance (DRF) forms to the Department Secretary prior to March 1st. Chapters without Departments must send to the National Secretary. Chapters failing to submit DRF to the Department (or National in Non Dept states) by March 1st will be assessed a $25 late fee. Chapters failing to remit dues to the Department (or National in Non Dept states) by April 1st WILL be automatically suspended by the Department and National. Suspended Chapters may be reinstated, no later than June 1st by submitting a complete membership roster, dues, $25.00 late fee, and a $50.00 reinstatement fee. Chapters failing to reinstate by June 1st shall be subject to a vote of revocation by the Riders Delegates at the AMVETS Riders Annual National Convention.
*March 15th – The Department shall collect their Chapters’ dues and rosters and send them to the Riders National Secretary no later than March 15th each year. The Department will submit $12 per member to National.
Revalidations occur after and because of Election of Officers at the Chapter and Department level. Even if all the Officers stay the same, a Reval must be completed.
EVERYTIME You have an Officer change, you must send in a new Revalidation.
*July 1st - Chapters must revalidate with Officers form to the Riders Department Secretary (or National in Non Dept Chapters) no later than 1st of July each year to maintain their Charter.
Retain one (1) copy for your Chapter, submit one (1) copy to the Riders Department Secretary (or National for Non Dept Chapters).
*July 15th – The Department must revalidate the Department with a new Officers form to the National AMVETS Riders no later than the 15th of July each year to maintain their Charter. The Department shall have all Chapter Revalidations submitted to the National Riders Secretary prior to the July 15th deadline or the delinquent Chapter will be placed on suspension.

Riders National Secretary
It is once again time for Department and Chapter elections throughout the Country, Congratulations to all the new and returning Officers. If you have accepted a position within the organization, I challenge you to perform your duties to the best of your abilities. This means read the Unified Constitution and By-Laws to become familiar with your duties and responsibilities. These documents can be found at www.amvetsridersnational.org on the Publications page.
One of the first responsibilities for the 1st Vices is to ensure that the Revalidations are received in a timely manner to the National AMVETS Riders. Chapters must revalidate to the Riders Department (or National, if no Department) no later than 1st of July each year to maintain their Charter. Chapters must submit to Department Headquarters (or National, if no Department) a copy of their most current IRS tax filing with the revalidation paperwork, (990, 1023, 1024).
Departments must revalidate no later than the 15th of July each year to maintain their Charter along with copy of their most current IRS tax filing with the revalidation paperwork, (990, 1023, 1024).
Just a reminder, to be eligible for the Quality Chapter award, National must have your Chapter revalidation by 1 July. The requirements can also be found at www.amvetsriders.org.
Again, Congratulations to all the new and reelected Officers nationwide.
National 1st Vice President
Greetings to all,
It is that time of year where the Chapters should be collecting the annual dues and verifying the Membership rosters. The requirements set for times to have your Dues in are stated in the Unified By-Laws Section 5.8 and reads as below:
5.8 Chapters shall remit National dues and Department dues (if applicable) and a complete membership roster to their respective Riders Department no later than March 1st each year. If no Riders Department exists, National dues and roster shall be sent to the Riders’ National Secretary no later than March 1st each year. Departments shall collect their Chapters’ dues and rosters and send them to the Riders National Secretary no later than March 15th each year. Chapters with no Department remitting dues after due date will be assessed a $25.00 late fee. Departments shall fine Chapters if payment is late. Chapters failing to remit dues by April 1st shall be automatically suspended. Suspended Chapters may be reinstated, no later than June 1st by submitting a complete membership roster, dues, $25.00 late fee, and a $50.00 reinstatement fee. Chapters failing to reinstate by June 1st shall be subject to a vote of revocation by the Riders Delegates at the Riders Annual National Convention.
Please read that section carefully as we do not enjoy having to suspend a Charter over something this routine. All the information for your Dues and Remittance can be found on our website: www.amvetsridersnational.org under the publications tab. Most of you have gone to the digital excel format and that seems to be working well so let’s keep it up. PLEASE verify all of your member’s phone numbers, e-mail addresses and parent organization membership numbers. Chapter 1st Vices should contact their respective Departments and if any Department 1st Vices or Chapters without a Department have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 678-463-2987/ firstname.lastname@example.org or the National Secretary, Karen Cox at email@example.com / 319-382-2484.
National 1st Vice President
First, I humbly thank you for the vote of confidence in electing me for the position of Riders National 1st Vice President. I am honored to be working with some of the most dedicated Riders in the country.
Over the next few months, The Chapter and Department 1st Vices will start getting prepared for our upcoming Dues and remittance in January. With everybody’s help by paying your dues on time and making sure your contact information is correct, we can make this process as painless as possible to ensure that nobody gets missed on any rosters. The National Roster is what counts when it comes time for voting.
If you are a Chapter or Department Officer, I challenge you to not just hold a position, but become the subject matter expert for your membership, they deserve the best. As we grow to nearly 3000 Riders nationwide, being able to fulfill the requirements of your position is critical to our success as the AMVETS Riders Nation. Lead by example. Within the next few months we will be rolling out a Riders Officers manual that puts in plain English what is required of each Officer position.
We have many things planned for our future as we grow and I am asking that you give your full support, as I do, to the Riders National President George Cummings. We also have a new National 2nd Vice, John Reando, he has a lot of fresh and great Ideas that we will be looking at to keep the dues at the current level, but, we all have to participate in the National fund raisers to make that happen. I am privileged to work with ALL the National and Department Officers, Elected and Appointed, to make the AMVETS Riders the Premiere Veteran oriented motorcycle organization in the world, not just a program.
Along with the other National Officers, I have an open door policy as long as you have used the Chain of Command. Members contact their Chapter Officers, Chapters contact their Department Officers, and Departments contact National Officers. If you are not satisfied with a timely response, give me a call. Our phone numbers and e-mails, along with a lot of other information, are on the National website, amvetsridersnational.org.
