Tip of the Month Nov2011

National Amvets Riders Road Captin Safety Manual

Accident Injury Report

Hand Signals

A lot of this info is from the “Rider’s Edge” /MSF Guide. For those that don’t have this guide and those are not familiar with the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) I thought that I would send out some safety tips from it.

Group Riding

The group ride organizer will alert you to the time and place for the ride. The organizer’s responsibilities include notifying you of the time of the riders’ meeting, which should take place immediately prior to the ride, matching the abilities and interests of the riders in the group, informing the group of any points pertinent to the ride, choosing the lead rider and the sweep rider, who should be the experienced riders of the group, as well as organizing the route and controlling the group’s activities once under way.

Your responsibilities prior to the group ride include being familiar with your limits of your own riding skills, as well as thoroughly knowing the capabilities of your own motorcycle. If you are a newer rider, your group organizer should suggest that you complete a formal riders training class prior to taking part in the event. For longer trips, you need to be aware of your own stamina. It’s also important to realize that your motorcycle may handle differently when loaded with a passenger and or luggage, try to keep heavier items as low as possible and as close to the center of the rear wheel as possible this is very important.
